The Western Wall Today

10 million people visit the Western Wall (Kotel) each year.
A walk up to the Jewish Quarter requires a difficult climb up hundreds of steps. Not everyone can do it – especially people who are disabled, aging, or strolling babies.

The Byron and Dorothy Gerson Center

Makes both levels accessible & your
Jerusalem experience better than ever with:

  • Two new 80 ft elevators that transport visitors between
the Jewish Quarter of the old city and the Western Wall (Kotel).

FACILITIES

The Jewish Quarter of the old city sits above the Western Wall (Kotel), with its ancient history, fascinating stories, and the majestic Tiferet Yisrael Synagogue that is now being now reconstructed.

Access from the Western Wall to the Jewish Quarter presents a challenge for many people. Whoever cannot climb the 140 steep steps is practically denied the option of visiting the old city and enjoying its many beautiful sites. Elderly and disabled people, parents with babies and young children, and anyone who finds the steps a challenge has limited access to both levels. The difficult passage stunts the deep emotional and spiritual experience of the old city experience. It frustrates the spirit of the timeless city.

With your help – The Byron and Dorothy Gerson Center will give you easy, direct access to both levels, enhancing your entire visit to the old city.
The center will also offer event and meeting halls, enabling visitors to host family and festive occasions near the Western Wall. The two spacious elevators will make it easier to visit its many important educational and historical sites, art galleries and the charming streets and alleyways in the old city.
